Purpose
The toggle switch is for holding the gate open without changing the programming on the board to turn auto close off. Great for parties and other times when a lot of guest will be coming over. It can also be used in situations where you will be home all day and you would like the gate to remain open but then return it to its closed/auto-close status at night.
There are two ways to use the toggle switch: Secure or Convenient
Secure: In this method you would place the toggle switch on a safety terminal. Flipping the switch would not make your gate open, but once the gate is open using a device the switch can be flipped and it will hold your gate open until the switch is flipped again. This is good for location where the toggle switch can be accessed by anyone, keeping it on a safety terminal will not allow people who normally don't have access to open your gate. Also some gate openers will only allow this method.
Convenient: In this method, the toggle switch goes on the same terminals as a free exit device. When the switch is flipped the gate will open on its own and remain open until the switch is flipped again. When the switch is flipped again the gate will close automatically. This is good if you are going to run wire into the house and place the toggle switch inside. Then if you would like your gate open for a while just flip the switch and there is nothing else you need to do, the gate will go open and remain so until you flip the switch back.
Features
- Small - It is as basic as it comes, just a small flip switch able to mounted just about anywhere and inconspicuous.
- Simple - Simple to use, flip the switch up or down. Simple to wire, only two wires needed.
- Versatile - It can be used for its primary purpose listed above or it can be used for many other things as well. It can be used to quickly and easily engage or disengage an accessory (like an exit wand you want to turn off while mowing the lawn) without unwiring it. It can also be used to control secure a gate lock from being powered while on vacation. Basically it can be sued for any purpose where you may want to conveniently connect or disconnect a circuit.
